Amanda Peterson's Mom Remembers Her After Death: "A Precious Person"

Amanda Peterson's friends and family are reeling in the wake of her sudden death at age 43. Among those grieving her passing is her mom, Sylvia, who paid tribute to the late Can't Buy Me Love actress on Tuesday, July 7.

"I just think she was a precious person and it's a big loss," Sylvia told Us Weekly. "That's all I can say."

Sylvia also spoke with Entertainment Tonight about her daughter, recalling their last day together on July 1.

According to Sylvia, the two had been gardening on Wednesday, and had plans to get dinner later that week. "Amanda was in very good spirits," Sylvia told ET of the Colorado native, noting that she didn't seem "ill" at the time.

As previously reported, Peterson was found dead at her home in Greeley, Colo., on Sunday, July 5. An official cause of death has not yet been determined, but autopsy results are pending. Her father told TMZ on Monday that she "had some illness and a sleep apnea problem that may have contributed."

Sylvia confirmed to ET that her daughter had sleep apnea, and also noted that the former star had previously struggled with depression and drugs. She said Peterson had been clean for a long time, though. "This was not, in any way, a drug thing," Sylvia told the site.

Peterson, who got her big break opposite Patrick Dempsey in Steve Rash's 1987 rom-com, left showbiz in the mid-1990s. According to Variety, she is survived by her second husband and two kids.
